Custom Motorized Vintage Victory Pedicab: SOLD

Vintage Victory Pedicab, retrofitted with a 5.5hp motor

The Victory Vintage Pedicabs were made in Taipei, Taiwan from the 1930s through the 1960s. Based on what little information I could find, a small number of these made their way to the US in the ’60s. Some were shipped back home by soldiers who had been in Taiwan. Others were brought here for the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle, Washington. And the most “famous” VV Pedicab here in the US was used in the 1963 Elvis Presley film, It Happened at the World Fair.

I’m not sure how my grandfather, A.D. “Dack” Wright, in a small town at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains stumbled across one, but if anyone could find an old gem of yesteryear and add a bit of workshop magic, my “PopPop” could make it happen!

During his “retirement years”, he was often tinkering away on some project and was especially fond of anything that needed small engine repairs. In his mid-70s in the early 2000s, he repaired and then modified this pedicab to make it a bit easier to drive by adding on a 5.5hp lawnmower engine.

Many miles were logged in the 20 or so years he had this gem: in local parades, church events and festivals, and leisurely loops around the neighborhood, most often with his wife, grandkids, great-grandkids, or friends in tow. In 2005 when his wife Margaret (my “Mimi”) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she would often join him in the garage while he continued his work on it, followed by an afternoon drive.

Dack & Margaret Wright, circa 2010 on a “rickshaw” ride around their neighborhood in Greeneville, TN.

To maintain the battery and motor, and to continue using it as is, the perfect owner would be familiar with the regular use and tinkering of small engines and motors.

Recently completed maintenance includes:

  • New battery (yes, this pedicab has an electric starter that works!)

  • New tires/tubes

  • Cleaned carburetor

  • Cleaned gas tank & fuel filter

This would be a unique item for any enthusiast or collector to use for a variety of purposes: parades, festivals and events, parties, weddings, photo ops, and leisurely rides with family and friends.

Price: $3500.00
